Betru Admassie – the first Ethiopian Minister of Telecommunication – was feted at a ceremony inside the historic National Theatre last Saturday. Organized by Tewedaje Media and Communication (Ezra Ejigu), he celebrated his 89th birthday with colleagues, family and friends. As well, a collection of stories complied in a CD was released in his honor. Many reflected on his career, in Ethiopia and Zambia, including with COMESA, friendship and charity work he has supported over the years. Imprisoned in the early years of the Derg for eight years, he was noted for being mentor to young political prisoners, specifically the children of Ethiopia’s monarchy.
