House endorses Attorney General Establishment bill

    The House of People’s Representatives has endorsed the draft proclamation which reestablishes the Federal Attorney General presiding over the all the prosecutorial power in the country and taking over the duties and responsibilities of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ).

    Blue’s audit committee suspends suspension, sacking

    Medrek criticizes PM’s recent sentiment

    The Ethiopian Federal Democratic Unity Forum (Medrek) criticized the recent “apology” of Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn concerning the unrest that spread across the Oromia Regional State claiming that it was less genuine since mass detention and torture is still continuing across the region; that is even after the apology.

    Attorney General takes over public prosecution

     A draft bill that was presented to parliament this week for debate  proposes the reestablishment of the Federal Attorney General, which will possess all the powers and responsibilities that have been assigned to the Ministry of Justice hitherto, in additional to consolidating all the prosecutor’s roles in the country including those accorded to the special prosecutors of Ethiopia Revenues and Customs Authority (ERCA), Federal Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (FEACC) and the Trade Practice and Customer Protection Authority (TPCPA).

    PM meets opposition

    Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn, during discussions held with members of the Joint Political Parties National Council, said that there are plans to reform the Council adding that it will strengthen free flow of ideas.

    Gov’t used excessive force in Oromia: Human Rights Council
