Gidey and Cheptegei break world records in Valencia

The Spanish city of Valencia had never seen an outdoor world record on the track before Wednesday night but within the space of 50 minutes it witnessed not one but two, as Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey and Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei went into new territory.

Loza & co. win Malta women’s league

Loza Abera, the first Ethiopian women footballer to play in a foreign league, has won the BOV Women’s League, finishing as the top goal scorer in the Malta league, and was voted the best female player of the year. Loza had joined the Malta based Football Club, Birkirkara, on a one year contract a couple of months ago from Adama City.

Walias jump five places in FIFA ranking

The world football governing body, FIFA, has announced the World Football ranking on Thursday, September 17, 2020. Ethiopia’s male national team a.k.a Walias are now placed 146th with 1061 points. The Walias jumped five places better than last year’s ranking.

Over 15 international competitions cancelled

The World Athletics (WA) has announced a new round of updates relating to international competitions, ranging from cancellations to postponements and confirmations. The governing body has confirmed that more than 15 international competitions were cancelled due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
