After decades of enforcement, the Council of Ministers (CoM) has endorsed a new draft bill to amend the Commercial Code of Ethiopia which proposes some sections of the Code to be governed under a separate legislation.

A new draft proclamation intending to amend the existing privatization laws has been tabled before the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), with MPs suggesting further scrutiny to identify the advantages and disadvantages of transferring public enterprises and urged to keep some of the public enterprises under the government, based on their respective importance for public advantages.

Aimed at controlling and deterring the spread of hate speech and disinformation among the society by, “irresponsible activists,” the government has tabled a draft bill before the House of People’s representatives (HPR), a week after it was first endorsed by the Council of Ministers (CoM).

The House of People’s Representatives (HPR) passed a draft bill on the prevention and suppression of financing and proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) which was provided last month.

Following the newly enforced restructurings of government institutions under the executive branch, appointments of officials by the Prime Minister continues to reach key institutions.
