Army prepares for National Defense Day

The Ethiopia National Defense Force announced today that it will be celebrating National Defense Day at the national level with collaboration between Air Force and the Oromia Regional Government.

Followed a three-day meeting of the Defense Council headed by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), Deputy Chief of Staff and Head of Military Operations, Berhanu Jula (Gen.) faced journalists on January 11, 2019 to reply to questions raised on the current security situation of the nation from his office located off Churchill Avenue in which he appeared to be assertive about the roles of the military in restoring peace and stability in the conflict-riddled Ethiopia.

Army commandos who marched to the PM office sentenced to imprisonment

More than 60 military commandos who decided to match on Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) and raise their issues regarding pay and benefits were sentenced to serve five to 14 years of imprisonment by the Martial Court of the Federal Defense Force. While the 66 out of the more than 200 military commandos were sentenced to imprisonment, the remaining were punished through administrative measures.

House votes to reject standing committee chair nominees

In its extraordinary session, the House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) has voted nay for two of the nominees to chair the 10 parliamentary standing committees the House endorsed during its previous session on Tuesday.
