The former CEO of Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP), Azeb Asnake (Eng.), became the latest high-ranking official to be implicated in the high-profile corruption case involving the USD 6 billion Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), it was learnt.
The Minister of Water, Irrigation and Electricity, Sileshi Bekele (PhD), hinted at the possibility of instituting a legal action, by the government, against the former officials of the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) and a contractor, over breach of the contractual agreement and the delay of the Repie Waste Energy Plant project construction whose capacity was said to have been halved by 50 percent from the original agreement.

Africa’s first Waste-to-Energy Facility was launched in the outskirts of the capital last Saturday, becoming the first such facility in the continent. Expected to have a processing capacity of approximately 1400 tons of waste a day, the facility was inaugurated in the shadow of Reppi Landfill which collapsed and killed scores of people, last year.
