Tigray holds unilateral election

Disregarding the decision reached by the House of Federation (HoF) concerning the election of the Tigray Regional Council as “unconstitutional” and the results therefore void, the regional state has conducted its 6th regional election on Wednesday, September 9, 2020.

Federal-Tigray tension escalate

The Tigray Regional Council, in an urgent meeting held on Wednesday, September 4, 2020, has decided not to take part in a meeting the House of Federation (HoF) has scheduled for September 5, 2020. Prior to the decision, the Council had sent a letter to the HoF requesting for the agenda of the meeting to be sent.

HoF elects new speaker

The House of Federation (HoF) has elected Aden Farah as its new speaker on Wednesday, replacing Keria Ibrahim, who resigned from the post on Monday, after serving for about two years.

Amid the multifaceted instability and identity-based conflict, the Government of Ethiopia has presented two separate draft proclamations before the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) to aid the establishment of an Independent Commission on Reconciliation and another one on Administrative Boundaries and identity Issues with a mandate to conduct research and present recommendations for the government.

Keira Ibrahim replaces Yalew Abate as HoF Speaker

Following the appointment of Muferiat Kemal as Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), the House of Federation (HoF) on Monday, April 30, 2018 unanimously approved the election of Keira Ibrahim as its Speaker to become the second woman to clinch top leadership in government.
