Following months of controversies with regards to the procurement of wheat, the Government of Ethiopia is to procure another batch of wheat amounting to 400,000 tons.

In an effort to ease congestion of cargos that often curtail the normal movement of goods from the Port of Djibouti; the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has signed a memorandum of agreement with Ethiopia to manage the land corridor and port operations.

While Ethiopian officials  failed to show up at the contract award and signing ceremony of the USD 101 million Berbera Port phase one expansion project, DP World, UAE’s port and terminal operating company has expressed its interests in developing logistical trade facilities at Dire Dawa and the surrounding areas in Ethiopia serving the so called Berbera Trade Corridor.

The Public Procurement and Property Disposal Service (PPPDS) awarded Promising International Trading Co. Dmcc – a major supplier of wheat to the Ethiopia market – to supply 200,000 metric tons of wheat with 1.56 billion birr even though the former accuses the Company for failing to fulfill previous contract to supply wheat, The Reporter has learnt.

The state-owned maritime monopoly, the Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Service Enterprise (ESLSE) said that it is optimistic of winning a tough competition to take over the Eritrean Port of Massawa which has not been offering regular operations.
