EZEMA accuses incumbent, Board of candidate registration irregularities

The Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice a.k.a. EZEMA announced that its candidates in Oromia region were unable to register for the upcoming election mainly due to the volatile security situation in the region, uncooperativeness of individuals tasked to register candidates and delays in opening registration offices in the region.

Over 200 international election observers registered so far

More than 200 international election observers registered to monitor the upcoming general election scheduled to be held on June 5, 2020, according to the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE). The Board also indicated that 111 local election observers have also been registered so far.

NAMA, Balderas to form alliance against NEBE’s decision

The National Movement of Amhara (NAMA) and Balderas are looking for possible ways to form an alliance for the upcoming election, despite the decision of the National Electoral Board not to receive such requests now.

NEBE invites local CSOs to observe upcoming elections

The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) on Friday December 11, 2020, tendered an invitation for interested local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to submit to the board their application to partake as local observers in the upcoming 6th general elections.   

Draft law introduces paid campaign ads

A draft directive jointly prepared by the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) and the Ethiopian Broadcast Authority (EBA) has introduced a provision that allows political parties to run paid campaign advertisements.
