Amhara region to demand refund for war expenses

The Amhara region of Ethiopia is expected to ask the Federal Government to cover the cost of war in parts of the region, which were under the control of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front’s (TPLF) forces. Due to its geographic location, adjacent to Tigray region, the Amhara region claimed that the war has cost it in billions of birr.

DBE loses 900 million birr to Tigray conflict

The Development Bank of Ethiopia (DBE) failed to recover 900 million birr in loans it provided to projects in Tigray as a result of the yearlong conflict in the region. Consequently, the bank has declared them Non-Performing Loans (NPL).

“Rebuilding region would take at least 30 years”

Recovering from the severe economic damage inflicted by the war in northern Ethiopia and bringing back the economy of Amhara regional state to pre-Tigray war economic status would take thirty to forty years of endeavor, revealed an assessment by the Planning Commission of the Amhara Regional State.

Council calls on international community to respect Ethiopia’s sovereignty

The Ethiopian Political Parties’ Joint Council, which consists of more than 50 parties, stated that a “destructive” interference by the international community in Ethiopia is not acceptable.

A criminal investigation conducted by Federal Prosecutors and Police, in collaboration with Amhara and Afar regional state authorities, revealed a heinous crimes report committed by forces of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) during their invasion into these regions.
