As the 12th organizational congress of the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) enters its third day of the annual meeting, the party’s officials renewed their commitment to address problems which has caused public outrage that led to the ongoing nationwide reform.

Mob vandalize properties claimed to be carrying two ANDM officials

Protesters in Debremarkos town of the Amhara Regional State attacked a hotel and set a vehicle on fire. The vehicle that was set ablaze was alleged to have hosted and transported two higher officials from the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM).

The targeted officials are Bereket Simon, the erstwhile deputy head of the Policy Study and Research Center and Communications Minister and Migbaru Kebere, member of the Central Committee of ANDM, according to Nigusu Tilahun, head of the Amhara Regional State Communications Affairs Office.

Demeke Mekonnen confirms declining EPRDF chairmanship candidacy

Demeke Mekonnen, chairman of the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM), one of the four parties constituting the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) and deputy chairman of the Front, disclosed today that he declined to accept candidacy for the chairmanship of the EPRDF in the interest of bringing new faces to the leadership of the ruling party and contribute his part in the deep renewal process.

EPRDF elects Abiy Ahmed chair

The council of Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has elected Abiy Ahmed (PhD), Chairman of Oromo Peoples’ Democratic Organization (OPDO), as its chairman today, Tuesday March 27.

Top contenders

Hailemariam Dessalegn was on the pedestal chairing the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) Executive Committee meeting that went for the whole week starting March 11, 2018, for the last time. It was a must for Hailemariam to chair the Executive Committee meeting of the coalition as the statute of the EPRDF states that such a meeting has to be chaired by the chair of the party.

Shiferaw to chair SEPDM

In a bid to fill the party chairmanship left vacant with the resignation of Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn, the Southern Ethiopia Peoples’ Democratic Movement (SEPDM) elected Shiferaw Shigute as its chair after a 24 days lengthy meeting which was concluded on February 26, 2018. The party also removed Dessie Dalke, the president of the regional government, from deputy chairmanship and replaced him with the defense minister Siraj Fegessa.

EPRDF’s defining moment

With secrecy being the defining trait of the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), the executive committee meeting of the party, which is being held behind closed doors, on Wednesday December 20, came out with a rather confession like communiqué which resembles the one issued by the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

House in virtual recess demanding PM appearance

It has now been almost two weeks since the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) convened a regular session in what The Reporter has learnt is due to failure to form the required quorum after some MPs allegedly boycotted sessions, demanding that the prime minister give the house a briefing on  crises unfolding in the country.
