On Thursday afternoon, five high level officers of the Ethiopian Military appeared before cameras in what was thought to be an unusual occasion for the media shy Ethiopian Defense Forces. It seemed more like an introduction to the public. The list of the military brass included the head of the Northern Command, Getachew Gudina (Maj. Gen.), head of the Defense Intelligence, Hassan Ibrahim (Leut. Gen.), Head of Special Operations, Molla Hailemariam (Leut. Gen.), head of the Western Command, Asrat Denero (Maj. Gen.) and head of the Eastern Command, Zewdu Belay (Maj. Gen.).

Draft bill introduces Naval, Cyber, and Space force

The Ethiopian Army composed mainly of Ground and Air Forces is receiving an upgrade in the form the re-establishment of a Naval Force along with Cyber and Space Forces, according to a new draft bill tabled before the House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) proposing significant amendment to the existing Proclamation of the National Defense Forces of Ethiopia.

Members of National Defense Forces tender their apologies

Admitting that their approaches were mistaken, members of the National Defense Forces who marched on the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) on October 10, 2018 to discuss salary and benefit packages, have expressed their regret and formally asked for the pardon of the government.

Army gets additional appointees

Weeks after a major reshuffle in the top leadership of Ethiopian Defense Forces, new appointees have been assigned to head Ethiopian Air Force and Military Operations division of the Defense forces.

Accordingly, as of today, Yilma Meredassa (M.Gen) is assigned as Chief of the Ethiopian Air Force while Birhanu Jula (Gen.) is named as the new Head of Military Operations,  Motuma Mekassa, Minister of Defense, Confirmed to The Reporter.
