Draft proclamation liberates electoral board

A new proclamation, which provides for the establishment of National Electoral Board Ethiopia (NEBE), tabled before the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) on Wednesday, is to end the excessive interference of the Government of Ethiopia (GoE) on the electoral body of the nation, The Reporter has learnt.

The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) earlier this week passed verdict over disagreement among leadership of the Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP), reaffirming that Chane Kebede (PhD) is the legitimate president of the party, board head of public relations, Tesfalem Abay, told The Reporter.

New EDP bosses to continue with parties’ negotiation

In a bid to clear confusion following disagreement among senior party officials, officials of the Ethiopian Democratic Party held a media briefing for local journalist at the party headquarters located in the Beklo Bet neighborhood on Sierra Leone Street, announcing that they were the legitimate leaders of the party. They also notified that Adane Tadesse and Tsige Tebebu would be the new president and vice president, respectively, effective October 22, 2017.
