Abdi Illey et al appear before court

The former President of the Ethiopian Somali Regional State, Abdi Mohammed Omar (Abdi Illey) and other four high level regional officers have been brought before court today August 29, 2018. The suspects who were detained on August 27 were suspected of misusing the budget allocated for regional development to organizing youth for the purpose of instigate violence and divide the society through religious and ethnic lines which resulted in the death of many people and the burning down of a number of churches in the region.

Abdi Mohammed Omar (Abdi Illey), the former president of Ethiopian Somali Region has been arrested following the lifting of his immunity by the regional council.

Jigjiga, surrounding rocked by violence

The conflict that began in Jigjiga town of the Ethio-Somali Regional State in eastern Ethiopia today, August 4, 2018, has spread to other towns of the region, The Reporter has learnt.

According to sources in the area, widespread attacks have been reported, especially targeting people that came from other regions. Sources also added that many are hiding in their homes and have retreated to churches for safety.

Ethio-Somali region releases prisoners

The Ethio-Somali Regional State is said to have released prisoners convicted of different crimes who were former members of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), The Reporter has learnt.
