AEUP elects Mamushet Amare as chairman

The All Ethiopian Union Party (AEUP), which was conducting its general assembly in the presence of 459 members last weekend, elected Mamushet Amare as the new chairman of the party while Abraham Getu was elected as the deputy chairman, The Reporter has learnt.

Blue demands “star” be removed from flag

Blue Party (Blue) in its press briefing held at its headquarters on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 officially requested the star emblem in the middle of the national flag to be scrapped and extended its question to use the older version of the flag without any additional emblem.

Negotiations on national consensus still pending

The Political Parties Negotiation Forum, which resumed its interrupted negotiation process last week, proceeded to pre-negotiations on how to undertake the negotiation on the agenda of national consensus. However, the Forum has again failed to reach an agreement on the modalities of the negotiation and postponed the pre-negotiation to Tuesday 12, 2018.

Blue Party PR to be released from jail

It has been decided that Yonathan Tesfaye, the former communications head of the opposition Blue Party be released, The Reporter has learnt.

According to sources, Yonathan is expected to be released from prison today.

Yonathan was charged and sentenced to jail for six years and six months for using social media to instigate violence. His sentence was later diminished to three years and six months in jail.

Medrek calls for an urgent dialogue forum

The Ethiopian Federalist Democratic Unity Forum a.k.a. Medrek has called for an urgent dialogue and negotiation forum so as to address the political turmoil and unrest that rocked parts of the country in the past two and a half years. 

AEUP, Blue call for the establishment of a national dialogue

The All Ethiopian Union Party (AEUP) and Blue Party (Blue), the two major opposition parties of the country, called for a swift national dialogue to propose possible solutions for the problems that exist in the country. The parties also emphasized that the forum should include all concerned stakeholders and Ethiopians across the globe.

Former Blue Party president to form a new party

Following elders’ mediation efforts to find solutions to the predicament Blue Party finds itself in, former president, Yelekal Getnet (Eng.), and other members who were ousted from the party, due to differences over the issue of audit report, have finally decided to form a new political party.
