Somaliland’s democracy put to test, passes

As Somaliland's fifth President was sworn in to power, the international community applauded the democratic elections and peaceful transition of power in the self-declared sovereign country of Somaliland, this week.

Yet to be recognized internationally, Somaliland has once again taught African states a lesson on how there can be peaceful power transfer by inaugurating its newly democratically elected president Muse Bihi Abdi today.

Abdi, who was elected as president of Somaliland in the November 2017 in a comparatively democratic election, became the fifth president of the self-proclaimed state replacing Mohamed Silaanyo.

Former Yemeni President, Ali Abdullah Saleh has been killed in a bomb attack targeting his house in Sanaa, Al Jazeera reported mentioning a Houthi radio report today.
