Egypt allegedly supplies weapons to Somalia

Egypt, which has been at loggerheads with Ethiopia over the hydroelectric dam project the latter is building over the Nile, has now defied a UN arms embargo with an alleged arms delivery it has made to Somalia, on February, 2020, The Reporter has learnt. 

Somaliland expresses concerns over Ethiopia’s regional policy

Following the change in leadership and the coming into power of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) in Ethiopia, the de facto independent state of Somaliland is feeling sidelined as Abiyhas made significant strides with Mogadishu and other neighboring countries.This time around, some officials of the small embattled Somaliland arebecoming vocal about their concerns regarding the political calculation of the new administration in Ethiopia, The Reporter has learnt.

Somalia says no meeting with Somaliland

Villa Somalia, the Office of the President Abdullahi Mohamed, a.k.a. Formajo confirmed to The Reporter that “there is no planned meeting” between the president and his Somaliland's counterpart Musa Bini Abdi.

There were unconfirmed reports that the two were scheduled to meet in Addis Ababa today February 20, 2019. Musa is reportedly in Addis. However, Villa Somalia said, “the two leaders are not meeting and there is no planned meeting at all.”

DP World eyes Dire Dawa for logistics development

While Ethiopian officials  failed to show up at the contract award and signing ceremony of the USD 101 million Berbera Port phase one expansion project, DP World, UAE’s port and terminal operating company has expressed its interests in developing logistical trade facilities at Dire Dawa and the surrounding areas in Ethiopia serving the so called Berbera Trade Corridor.

National Airways acquires five aircraft

One of the indigenous private airlines in Ethiopia, National Airways, has bought five passenger aircraft from the US. National Airways purchased the aircraft from an American company. The aircraft are Embraer ERJ145 with 50 seats. Four of the aircraft have already arrived Addis Ababa and the fifth one is expected to arrive in the coming few days.

Berbera Port expansion project to commence in September

After forming a tripartite port development agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ethiopia, the Government of Somaliland, which is yearning to gain an international recognition, has made arrangements to commence the construction of new port facilities at the Port of Berbera.
