A year after it was proposed, the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) have passed an anti-terrorism draft bill to amend the anti-terrorism law which has been heavily criticized by various right groups.
In a landmark decision that comes with the ongoing reforms, the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) on Thursday unanimously voted on a motion to resend the designation of three political groups – the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), and [Patriotic] Ginbot 7 from its “terrorists list”.
With a belief that there are intensive political reforms being carried out in the country by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), the prominent army official, Kemal Gelchu (Brig. Gen.), who defected the Ethiopian National Defense Force in 2006 to join the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), returned to Ethiopia on Thursday July 5, 2018.
Following the decision by the Council of Ministers to remove groups from terrorists list and enable them to be engaged in the country’s political activities, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) is scheduled to appear before the House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) to defend this decision on Friday July 6, 2018.
